Ποικιλία μαύρου φραγκοστάφυλου (blackcurrant) γρήγορης και συμπαγής ανάπτυξης. Παράγει εύγευστους, μέτριου μεγέθους καρπούς που συλλέγονται από τα τέλη Ιουλίου. Αυτογονιμοποιούμενη ποικιλία με μεγάλη ανθεκτικότητα σε ασθένειες.

Το μαύρο φραγκοστάφυλο είναι η μεγαλύτερη πηγή βιταμίνης C (έως 182mg ανά 100g φρούτων) και σε μικρότερο βαθμό, βιταμίνης B, P,Ε, προβιταμίνης Α, καλίου και σιδήρου. Εκτός από βιταμίνες, είναι ιδιαίτερα πλούσιο σε φυτικές ίνες, περιέχοντας πάνω από 5,5 γρ. ανά 100 γραμμάρια μούρων.

Επίσης τα φραγκοστάφυλα είναι πλούσια σε πολυφαινόλες, φυτικές ουσίες γνωστές για την αντιοξειδωτική τους δράση, καθώς έχουν την ιδιότητα να συλλαμβάνουν τις ελεύθερες ρίζες που βλάπτουν τους ιστούς του σώματος. Η κατανάλωση του καρπού εμποδίζει το σχηματισμό τοξικών ουσιών στο σώμα.

Ribes Nigrum Ben Nevis’ is a black currant.

The Black currant bush grows to around 100 to 150 cm in height, which makes it suitable for smaller fruit gardens.

Around the middle of May this shrub starts flowering with inconspicuous white-pink flowers and is then attractive to pollinating insects. After flowering, the shrub develops black, shiny berries in large clusters.

The shrub needs direct sunlight for optimal yield and sweeter berries. The berries of this shrub can be picked from June onwards. The fruits can be eaten fresh, but processing into jam or juice is even tastier. The fruit is best known from the Cassis drink.

It is one of the healthiest berries with its high vitamin C content.

The shrub can be pruned between February and March, then only remove the dead branches. The less you prune, the more chance there will be of berries.

It is easy to maintain and will bear fruit after just one year. The shrub loses its leaves in the winter, but can withstand temperatures up to -34 degrees Celsius without any problems.
